ENG: Statement from the Danish Ice Hockey Union
Denmark will – based on the current situation and the information available to us today – not play against Russia at the World Championship in Germany in May 2027. Denmark’s other games in the tournament will be played as scheduled. The decision has been communicated to the IIHF.
Our position remains unchanged. Nothing has happened that changes the basis for keeping Russia out of international ice hockey as long as the war in Ukraine continues.
This decision is about the safety and security of ourselves and all our partners – players, staff and their families, fans and sponsors.
We remain deeply concerned about both the security situation and the physical and mental strain a game against Russia could place on everyone involved.
Out of respect for the integrity of the sport of ice hockey, we cannot see ourselves playing against Russia as the situation stands.
